Our Story

Firstly, I would like to introduce myself, Kelli Royston-Ing, proprietor.

The Pickled Herring Restaurant was launched in 2014 by local businessman John Young. The name derives from “let’s get pickled (tipsy) at the Herring”.
In 2016 the opportunity arose to purchase a 50% share in the restaurant so from 15 years of being in the fashion industry in the city and 13 years as the local real estate agent I ventured into a new challenge !  I loved it so much I took on sole ownership in September 2019. I can honestly say I have never worked so hard in all my life.
I have been a Two Rockian with my beautiful daughter Billi for 20 years and I love the laid back vibe, great locals and amazing scenery. Don’t take my word for it, drop in and see for yourselves.
In September 2018 my best friend, which was my father, better known as “Dellboy” passed away at the age of 89 3/4 years of age. They say a daughter’s first love is her Dad and this was especially true for me. My world fell apart and I threw myself into my business working 70+ hours a week to keep my mind busy and ease the pain.
In 2020 my goal is to be more organised and manage my time more efficiently so I can cut down on my hours and spend some quality time with my daughter before she fly’s the nest.
The Pickled Herring has now become personal to me. I have met some amazing people; many patrons that I can now call friends, my staff who have helped me grow and put up with my tiredness, grumpiness.
Our Mission Statement is to strive to be the best we can and make sure all our patrons, kids, parents, grandparents and our fur babies leave our restaurant with a Warm & Fuzzy Feeling and wanting to return.
We specialise in Seafood with an Asian fusion created by our Korean Head Chef Jey Lee. He only uses the freshest ingredients and along with his attention to detail and presentation skills and of course the flavoursome tastes which complement the relaxed casual coastal dining experience.
We are fully licenced and also offer a take away service (full takeaway menu available on the website)

So hand on heart THANK YOU for supporting my business and a special thank you to Daryl for believing in me and helping me get there.
